The Community Foundation of Warren County — A Way for Everyone to Pay It Forward
In 1949 a small group of men and women thought Warren County should have a foundation that would be able to provide support for education and various other programs and projects for the citizens of Warren County and its immediate environs.
From its initial modest beginnings the Community Foundation of Warren County has grown into a multi-million dollar organization with assets over $65 million. This growth has been possible through the generous gifts of numerous Warren County residents and the conservative investment policies of the Board of Directors.
In 2015 the Foundation made distributions totaling nearly $2 million to Warren County non-profit organizations. The organizations range from the Arts to Communities, Schools, Youth/Families, Churches and Health Care. Warren General Hospital, the YMCA, Tidioute Medical Center, Warren County Historical Society, Struthers Library Theatre, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Warren Area Student Union, Libraries in Warren, Sugar Grove, and Tidioute – these are just a few of the many organizations which have received grants from the Foundation.
For the 2016-2017 school year, the Foundation provided scholarship aid to Warren County students totaling over $1,000,000, including matching PATH grants awarded to Community Foundation scholarship recipients by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency. The Foundation administers over 20 different scholarships available to students from Warren County.
The Foundation also sponsors an all-county day of giving, “Warren Gives.” Last year over $300,000 was donated to Warren County organizations by individual donors and donation matches provided by the Betts Foundation, Sara Sokolski Memorial Fund, The DeFrees Family Memorial Fund, Northwest Charitable Foundation, Blair Corporation, and the Community Foundation. In its four year history, Warren Gives has raised over $1,000,000 for local charitable organizations.
Warren County has been blessed by the foresight of the founders and by the generosity of numerous donors over the past 67 years. Each year presents new challenges and opportunities to our communities and to the Community Foundation of Warren County. The Board of Directors is ready to face the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities for the benefit of all.
The Foundation provides a way for people to provide support for organizations serving a charitable purpose, now and in the future. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life in Warren County through philanthropy. Our motto –“For Good… Forever” sums it up.
