On Friday, December 22nd, the PTO of the Warren Area Elementary Center sponsored a Pajama Day Fundraiser to benefit the Kids In Need Fund at the Community Foundation of Warren County. Principal Jennifer Hobbs explained, “Students who wished to do so came to school in their pajamas. Though it was not a requirement, all students were encouraged to contribute $1.00 to support the Kids In Need Fund. This fund has provided so many things for students at WAEC and throughout the district; we wanted to give the students a chance to give back. Even students who did not wear pajamas contributed to the fund, and all students were encouraged to participate in this fun event. We were so excited to raise $434.30.”
Dr. Patricia Hawley, Director of Pupil Services commented, “The Kids In Need Fund was started when several donors recognized the need for clothing, school supplies, and personal care items for homeless students in the Warren County School District. The program has been expanded to help students in need, not just those who are homeless. We coordinate our support of these students with all the appropriate agencies in Warren County so there is no duplication of effort. To have this commitment of support through the Community Foundation of Warren County is wonderful and so important to those kids who are helped. We hope to have more fundraisers through the Warren County School District in the coming year.”
“The Kids In Need Fund is a great way to improve the quality of life in Warren County,” noted John Lasher, Foundation Executive Director. “The donors who created the fund are committed to helping these young people. It is exciting to have the students raising funds for the program; and it reinforces our idea that everyone can be a philanthropist.”
